PROJECTS IN PERU

PAST PROJECTS IN PERU

In 2005, Sherri Wendorff took her children to Peru to visit the Amazon and see some of the Peruvian Culture.  They happened upon a small children’s shelter, and took them some food and asked what they could do for them.

The Peruvian caregivers said they would love to receive a little chocolate so the children could try chocolate as their Christmas treat. Sherri and her family decided they could do more than a little chocolate at Christmas. After returning back in Canada in the years that followed, the Southern Alberta Society for High Andes Relief (SHARPERU) was organized and a team was created to be able to do more.

Since then, with the support of many wonderful people, they have received donations which have assisted them to complete hundreds of educational projects in Cusco, including projects for women to help teach them marketable skills to earn money, building concrete wood burning stoves for cooking safety, raising guinea pigs for butchering and selling, medical support, paid for children’s education, construction of orphanages and shelters, and caring for many individuals and families along the way.

The High Andes Relief team have enjoyed their projects immensely in Peru. These projects continue to be self-sustaining.

Recently, they have turned their efforts to some new projects in Rwanda, and now joined some friends in their efforts in Uganda. High Andes Relief is now renamed and reframed as Elevate Hope International.
